Rugby News:

The North Carolina High School Rugby Association (nchsra.org) was formed over the summer.  This new conference is dedicated in growing the sport of rugby as a club sport in high schools across the state.  The new  Hoke County High School Rugby Football Club was formed to grow the game of rugby, for both boys and girls.  This is a full contact sport enjoyed by many high schools across the United States and offers not only a state championship for boys and girls, it also gives them a national championship sponsored by the National Guard.

The game of Rugby was founded in England and actually was played in the United States before Football.  A couple of words used in our modern day football game came from Rugby:

1. Touch Down (the only difference between football and rugby with scoring touch down is in rugby you actually have to put the ball down)

2. Line of Scrimmage came from the word scrum.  Where the ball has stopped in football, but in rugby it is where a minor infraction took place (like dropping a ball forward)

Coach King,

I am excited and hesitant about the move, however USA RUGBY is dedicated to creating state based organizations and to formally get rugby excepted by the NFHS.  I believe this will bring legitimacy to our club within the Hoke County Community and will grow our sport much further.  The boys and girls that play for me are excited about representing their school and wearing Black and Red (It just looks MEAN).  Rugby is for any boy or girl at Hoke High school that would like to come out.  The girls season is in the fall and the boys season is in the spring.

Practice is at East Hoke Middle School @5:30 on the practice field behind the school.
